Questions and answers related to Nautikos
What are the advantages of Nautikos over Moodle?
Nautikos is, overall, a more powerful LMS (Learning Management System) than Moodle. It offers instructors, administrators and learners more options when producing, delivering, and interacting with learning content.?
One advantage is that Nautikos is more secure, since it is far more difficult to hack. Also, Nautikos has better control over learner progression, as it is a mastery-based learning system. Finally, Nautikos can print tests more easily.
Why can’t I print activities?
Most activities should print by using the printer icon in the lower right hand corner of the Activity Screen. Here are a few steps for troubleshooting printing problems.
Is the server listed as a Trusted Site in your browser? If not, add it as a Trusted Site.
Does the pop-up window appear? If not, you may have to enable pop-ups in your browser.
Does the message “Creating Files…Please Wait” appear but nothing seems to be happening? If the activity file is large (lots of photos, embedded sound files, etc.), it will take a few minutes for the file to load. Be patient.
Does the file appear in the pop-window but no print option is available? Try right-clicking anywhere in the pop-up window, then select Print from the menu that appears.
The file appears in the pop-up window, I select Print, but the activity is not printing? Check the printer…is it turned on? Is there paper in it? Can you print other files (outside of Nautikos)?

Why does my learner continue to see the same activities she has already completed?
There are two possible explanations:
1) The learner did not achieve mastery on a post-test and is being taken back to the activities associated with the post-test. The learner would have encountered and completed the activities prior to the test. If mastery was not achieved, the learner will receive the same activities for review before attempting the post-test again.
Suggestion: Explain that seeing these activities again is a reminder to review completed work prior to rewriting the post test.
Suggestion: Create Supplementary Learning Objects for these activities that provide alternate or additional activities that can assist the learner in understanding the concepts.
2) The learner used the Tree View Browse feature to preview upcoming activities. When the learner returns to the current activity screen (blue border), the activity in the current outline location will be displayed.
Suggestion: Remind the learner that using Tree View Browse does not advance her in the path. To advance to new activities, the learner must use the red arrow on the current activity screen.
