About our courses
Many online courses for Math 12 have been created, but not all are equal. Most online course are electronic text. Not this one. This is a rich multimedia, interactive user friendly courseware that will not only teach students the Principles of Math 12, but also get them excited about doing math. This is a new generation in online learning. Denis M Tanguay, P.Eng., Math and Physics Teacher, Archbishop Carney Secondary, Port Coquitlam, BC.

I tried the page and everything is working perfectly! The course is going really well. I love the audio aspect; it’s very helpful with the explanations. Student

Hearing the lesson being taught to you is like having my teacher’s undivided attention. Student

I would like to express my gratitude to everyone at Odyssey Learning who contributed to the Classroom Connections series. In particular, I would like to thank Ellen and Sean for their assistance as moderators. Their skill and patience in assisting everyone was a huge contributor to the success of the project! Again my thanks! Bruce Jansen, Superintendent of Schools, Vancouver Island West School District

The author has provided audio, visual and interactive explanations of the concepts in Math 12 that are engaging and very clear. Mary Stobbe

I started my homework at 9 p.m. and realized that I hadn’t really understood the concept as well as I thought I had. So, I went back and viewed the 2 – minute video on the topic and was able to complete the assignment. I couldn’t have phoned my ‘in-class’ teacher for help on Saturday evening! Math 12 student

I am happy to help with the ‘review’ of this course. I am LOVIN’ IT! I agree that these courses are the best yet — similar in style to TLE but with the advantage of newer technologies (Jing and Flash are great!). Dane Allison

About our services & support
Things are a thousand times better since you folks took over our data base…” When I have a question regarding Nautikos courses, the support we get from Odyssey is fast, efficient and friendly! Sheila Wigmore, Queen Charlotte Islands, BC

I’ve had 2 separate teachers (in different schools) mention to me in the past couple of weeks how much better Nautikos is working this year…totally unsolicited! Kudos to all of you! I often think about all the problems I send your way, and how great the support is. Ken McLeod, Instructor, Morden Adult Education Centre, Mission, BC.

The site Support Package is worth every cent when you get support like this. John Duncan, Teacher, Castlegar, BC.

I … want to thank the people at Odyssey Learning for the work that has been done jointly with my school board and with myself over the years. Rejeanne Belisle-Massie, Coordinatrice, Counsiel scolaire catholique de district des Grandes Rivieres, New Lisgard, Ont.

More important even than the software is the integrity of the company and its employees. I have known many of the key people for at least ten years. In every regard, I would class them as caring educators and ethical business people. If you decide to work with Odyssey, I am sure you will find the same to be true. While they are a commercial business, they do care about the people who use their product, and they are willing and committed to stay involved well past the completion of the sale. Susan Crichton, Ph.D., University of Calgary.

About our technologies, tools & resources
Nautikos 2.5 is a fantastic learning tool that can be adapted to suit different learning styles and requirements! I have students taking their entire high school education through the system as well as upgrading. They would not complete high school without Nautikos. I am completely sold on this program. Deb Highmoor, Grenfell High School, Saskatchewan

Using Nautikos allows my students to have a flexible timetable – our National passion of hockey can’t even stand in the way of academic completion and our Midget Triple A hockey players complete their math courses on Nautikos. They said it was the best because they had time and flexibility to practice hockey and do their course. The CML environment of Nautikos brings my students to me for one-on-one instruction when they need it, which is where the most significant learning takes place for success. Lyle Svitich, Teacher-Career High Outreach School, Innisfail, Alberta

Our centre has gained a reputation as a caring and effective learning institution in the Nicola Valley. We have a good working relationship a number of agencies and education facilities and we want to acknowledge the Nautikos platform and the people at Odyssey for helping us to be able to help our learners over the years. Rick Ferguson, Site Manager and Coordinator of Alternate Programs, Directed Studies Centre, Merrit, BC.

Nautikos’ ability for students to work whenever it is convenient for them, its ability to allow individualized programs of study, the mastery learning component, the feedback available to students, and the success students usually obtain immediately have given our learners access to the education they need in a manner that works for them. Brian Smith, Principal – Tsu T’ina High School, Alberta

We at Ballenas are in a positive frame of mind with the direction and personnel of Odyssey. We see only good things to come in the future and look forward to a long-lasting relationship. Ballenas is proud of the work accomplished utilizing the Nautikos platform as well as the support the Odyssey team has afforded us over the past five years. Ed Seidel, Teacher/Site Manager, Ballenas Secondary School, Parksville, BC.

My IPP students are very successful working with the Nautikos system. It breaks their learning down into bite-size bits, and they are not overwhelmed by the content. I have developed and modified several courses in Nautikos and appreciate that I can easily tailor them to the needs of my students using Alberta resources. Wendy Hibbard, Teacher – Cremona School Learning Centre, Alberta

For us, at WLC, the ability of the student to be as independent as they can be is really rewarding and is what sets Nautikos/Pathfinder apart from the other systems. For us, computer managed is preferable to computer based learning. This frees the teacher to give help where and when needed. It also frees computers so that we don’t have to be so resource rich. It works well even with our reluctant learners. And it works extremely well with our very able learners. Ken Shannon, Westview Learning Centre, Powell River, B.C.

We have had substantive success since 1997 in using Nautikos for at-risk and outreach students and in our K-12 high schools. Course completions and CEU’s (credit enrolment units) are greater in schools using Nautikos, and we are very impressed with the pedagogical and philosophical approach of Nautikos. We plan to expand the program to all of our other outreach schools and will be measuring and monitoring academic performance, student motivation/attitude/interest in learning, and best practices. Jim Gibbons, Superintendent of Chinooks Edge School Division, Alberta

About our Student Management System 2.1

“From a teacher’s point of view, I see it as a way of making the information from eSis more available, and useful.

Schools have to use eSis to track students for the Ministry, but it is awkward to use, slow, and teachers only have access to the students who are active in their classes.

It’s useful to be able to see what other courses students are currently taking (completed, or planning), have contact/demographic information easily accessible, etc.

It seems we ask our secretaries for this sort of information daily, so it’s very nice to be able to have easy, “friendly”, and quick access to it.  I know we also want to

be able have students register online, and perhaps store Student Learning Plans here as well.

Having remote access to SLP’s will be very useful, as we often need this when off-site.” -Ken McLeod

“The challenge as a distributed learning program has always been managing the multitude of continually enrolling students and the ensuing required student records in such a way as to enhance rather than detract from the learning experience of students. In order to do this we needed to develop a registration process and record management system that effectively handled the record keeping, supported communication between the teaching staff and their students and blended many of the daily tasks of the online school within one system.

The Student Management System jointly developed by Odyssey with BCLN has accomplished all that we hoped for and continues to evolve and enhance our program effectiveness. We have worked with the Odyssey Team to create a program that helps staff focus on student learning success rather than burden them with management issues.

The Odyssey Team has been there with us helping to customize a program that does not compromise our needs and continues to enhance our abilities to serve our students better.  As distributed learning continues to grow and evolve in B.C., schools need to rely on service providers that can grow and evolve with them.

Odyssey has been there every step of the way to support our needs with their innovative ideas, development and leadership. Their support and responsiveness is second to none. We plan on working with them as reliable corporate partners for many years to come.  Thanks to Odyssey our student management challenges are no longer the headache they once were. “ -Bruce Weitzel
